English

'If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.' - Vincent Van Gogh

How do we learn English today? The ESL department at Raffles Design Institute, Shanghai, engages this question by offering students the means to experience a range of widely-accepted innovative methodologies that cultivate an active and communicative learning environment. Our group of dynamic and committed teachers ensure that students are equipped with the critical skills to perform competently in their three-year coursework where English is the medium of instruction.

The English course is divided into 6 levels - Foundation to Advanced. Before admission, students are placed into their level of standard through a placement test. During their course of study, students are exposed to a comprehensive curriculum where the four main skills of learning English - reading, writing, speaking and listening - are taught. These skills are vital in preparing them for global markets and further studies abroad.

In addition, the ESL department also offers elective programs (IELTS Preparation, Academic Writing, Literature and Conversation Skills) and supplementary courses to stimulate students who are interested in acquiring advanced skills in the mastery of the language. Students may also participate in these classes to ensure a continuous immersion of the language.
